Customers' expectations in the automotive industry, such as long life expectancy and reliability, zero failure rate and low cost on large production quantities, were and remain the driving force behind ongoing development at SONCEBOZ. The proven permanent magnet technology is the basis for new products which satisfy these requirements.
With innovative systems, SONCEBOZ has been able to consolidate its position on the world market as a supplier of mechatronic drives to control diesel and petrol engines, comfort and instrumentation options.

Applications in the passenger compartment
The passenger compatment of modern cars contains a wide variety of electronic systems, including many positioning motors. For instance, highly compact actuators move and position the ventilation flaps of air-conditioning systems. The robust and modular design of SONCEBOZ products, some with integrated electronics, allows ideal adjustment to specific requirements such as torque, speed or space constraints.
For car instrumentation, traditional precision technology in conjunction with innovation has led to the development of a micro-stepping motor. With its ultra-flat design, this micro-motor has almost completely replaced traditional cross-coil drives. This drive weighs just a few grams and can be very easily inserted into the production process. It is microprocessor controlled, therefore achieving substantial systems cost reductions.

Applications in the engine compartment
Modern engine management requires faster and more precise interventions in the regulation process. This can only be achieved by electrical regulators. For this purpose, SONCEBOZ has developed a range of actuators which act either directly or indirectly - depending on the particular task - on the motor control, e.g. to regulate gas flows. Stringent environmental standards and low fuel consumption can only be achieved through extremely precise control of admission and exhaust gases. In view of this, electrical actuators are increasingly replacing traditional pneumatic regulators whose accuracy and dynamics no longer satisfy the needs of modern cars. Another application area for mechatronic drives is the cooling circuit control. Here the cooling temperature must rise rapidly after the engine has been started and then maintain a set value as accurately as possible. A purely mechanical design can no longer handle this task with the precision required today. Here again, a mechatronic system is the only response to an integrated solution.

For all these applications, SONCEBOZ offers a choice of brushless drive technologies with and without position feedback. They satisfy the stringent requirements prevailing in the engine compartment, together with the needs for silent running and minimum dimensions inside the vehicle.

Linear actuators
These two-phase actuators are based on the claw pole motor technology and incorporate a lead srew to convert the rotary movement into linear motion. The speed and stroke can be adjusted to suit specific applications.

Torque motors
These drives satisfy the highest dynamic requirements. The movement of adjusting elements within a given angle is mastered directly without gearbox reduction in less than 100 milliseconds. Constant torque is available throughout the rotary angle. Together with an integrated magnetic sensor, a complete contact-free solution is also available for closed loop control.

Micromotors
In these two-phase stepping motors, which weigh less than 10 grams, the coils are fitted on the same surface as the gear so allowing ultra-flat design.

Integrated gear motors
This new generation of two or three-phase stepping motors is characterised by an unusually flat design and simple modular structure. This is achieved through the high integration density of magnetic, mechanical and electronic components.

Electronic commutator motors
These highly dynamic brushless DC or EC motors belong to the same family as our micro-motors. Integral position detection enables a closed control loop to be established without additional sensors.

Thanks to these advantages, SONCEBOZ products are successfully used by leading manufacturers such as:

  • Alfa Romeo
  • BMW
  • Daimler Chrysler
  • FIAT
  • Lancia
  • Rover
  • Volvo
